Supermarket to shut doors by Aug. 11
OGDEN -- Residents in northeastern New Hanover County will soon have one less place to do their food shopping.
In an email to frequent customers of its Ogden store, Harris Teeter announced it is closing its store at Gordon Road and Military Cutoff roads in early August.
“We want to make you aware that after careful consideration, we have decided to close this location,” the message stated. “The store will close on or before August 11, 2018.”
Susan Arredondo, property manager at Cameron Management, which manages Ogden Plaza, said she also received notification from Harris Teeter on Tuesday that the Ogden store will cease operations in early August.
“I’ll go to the one in Mayfaire, which is annoying because then you’re dealing with all that traffic,” she said.
The Ogden area also has seen a rapid increase in food options in the past year.
Publix and Aldi recently opened stores just up Market Street from Gordon Road, and several new developments with food stores are planned for the Military Cutoff corridor along with the substantial number of supermarkets that are already located there.
There also is a Food Lion across Gordon Road from the Ogden Harris Teeter.
